We are lesbians who support country-western dancing.
About Us
Women's Country Dance Community (WCDC) is a non-profit co-operative whose goal is to promote and encourage the joy of dancing for women, regardless of age, race, or ability. WCDC provides a place for women to dance at a monthly social event known as Women Steppin' Out (WSO). The dance offers a country-western atmosphere with a safe, friendly, smoke-free environment and opportunities to learn to dance.
More Details
WCDC dances and other functions are coordinated by a group of volunteer members. New members are warmly welcomed at any time during the year. You do not have to be a member to attend, but your contribution as a working member is needed and appreciated. Members can attend the functions at greatly reduced rates.
WCDC offers quality instruction, usually an hour lesson at the beginning of the dance, which is focused mostly on fundamentals for new or beginner dancers followed by a separate line dance lesson for both beginners and more advanced dancers. The lessons are included in the membership/entrance fees. Music is a mix of traditional country-western and cross-over with occasionally some pop. The music supports a variety of dance styles with two-step, triple-step, country and popular line dances, waltz, several types of swing, night club two step, and occasionally Latin.
WCDC's Women Steppin' Out dances are held at the Unitarian Universal Church of Rockville on the third Friday of every month, except for the December dance which is scheduled as a special New Year event. The current non-member fee for regular dances is $10, which goes toward rent, DJ, refreshments, and other expenses.
